The AIS Network Operations team is responsible for scaling and operating the AIS regional network (LA / San Diego / Phoenix), providing high-availability networking, load-balancing, optical connectivity, performance routing, applications delivery, and network management to hundreds of clients.
Reporting to the Senior Applications Engineer, the Applications Engineer will be focused on and is responsible for, specification, implementation and testing of client network applications, and ensuring mission-critical systems are running and available at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary
- Specify, install, and maintain client firewall systems
- Specify, install, and maintain load-balancing service
- Install and maintain AIS corporate firewalls
- Manage AIS VPN access
- Administration of AIS Windows domain (DC's, print servers)
- Test and apply new software and maintenance patches
- Network diagramming / documentation
- Provide internal and external client support via phone, email and the TAS ticketing system.
- Apply network engineering best practices to minimize downtime and data loss for all internal and external service delivery systems.
- Produce systems documentation as needed to meet AIS and client requirements.
Secondary
- Provide engineering assistance to internal and external clients for assigned projects
- On Duty Engineer (ODE) duties as required
- Provide training to internal and external clients as directed
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Strong working knowledge of a current major server OS (Windows, Linux)
- Thorough understanding of internet technology
- Deep understanding of TCP/IP and UDP services
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
- Broad experience with common network and application technologies
- Able to automate via scripting
- Troubleshooting server hardware and software
- Strong working knowledge of data center environments.
- Documentation of processes and procedures
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Work well independently and with a team
Additional (preferred) Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience in Windows server and workstation operating systems
- Familiar with service provider networking
Note: Reliable transportation is required for this position. Occasional travel may be required to local and out-of-state locations in support of the AIS network or to attend training.
