On October 3, we announced that the Callaway Golf Company (Callaway), has completed its move into the our Lightwave Data Center.  Located 30 miles south of their corporate headquarters, they selected us because we provide them with reliability, redundancy, security and room for growth along with fixed costs for easier budgeting. Our announcement got some pick-up in the Media.  Here are some of the links.

It has been a busy week for us.  We are in the process of putting together our webinar series that focuses on the “360° Approach to Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, and Application/Service Availability.”  We participated in the Disaster Recovery Journal Fall World conference that was held in San Diego.  And, we've been handling inquires about how we did during the power outage.  The answer is, "Great!"

Having a redundant power supply would seem to be a "no brainer." After all, a failover option in case electrical power is interrupted would seem to be a business essential. But the answer is not always so simple: different users have different requirements for reliability and uptime; there are a variety of ways to achieve different levels of power redundancy; and redundancy costs money. American Internet Services (AIS) can help you determine exactly what type of power redundancy will best mitigate your particular risks at the lowest overall cost. But while each client is different, there are a number of common questions and considerations about power redundancy that apply to all, and this white paper will help you explore what your requirements and options are.

There are many reasons why companies seek a colocation facility for their data center needs. Perhaps it’s the benefit derived from a cost-effective, quick-access solution. Or, there may be a desire for a higher tier Level facility with better infrastructure and tighter security.  Whatever the drivers may be, for the desired results to be achieved, a critical step is to have a disciplined approach to evaluating potential colocation vendors to ensure the desired results are achieved. One of our objectives here at AIS is to make sure we help our clients help themselves.  We are putting together a handy RFP template that puts some discipline around the vendor selection process.

A recent story in The Wall Street Journal about the ripple effect of technology glitches at U.S. airlines  --inconveniencing thousands of travelers, spawning long airport lines, delaying or canceling flights -- got me thinking. More often than not, the root cause has been said to be some sort of maintenance or software update that goes awry.  Which got me further thinking, did these companies even know that a change was being introduced into the system that they rely on to keep their business running?

SAS 70 has been touted on a number of websites for businesses offering data center services.  It has been the equivalent of the "Good Housekeeping" stamp of approval since its inception as a cornerstone audit in 1992. Goodbye SAS 70, Hello SSAE 16: SAS 70 is being retired this year. In its place AIS will pursue the SSAE 16 SOC 1 as well as the AT 101 SOC 2 reports in order to provide assurance to customers assurance of appropriate controls.
